The Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Church are thankful for the opportunity to work with children in catechesis and faith formation. Over the last four years we have had the gift of using the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for the youngest child (ages 3-6) at St. Peter Catholic Church. This year we are priviledged to be working with three atria, St. Peter Catholic Church, The Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes and Trinity Catholic School.
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is an approach to catechesis, through which the youngest children build deep, lifelong relationships with Christ and His Church.
Originating in Rome in the 1950s, the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd uses a rich Montessori approach to engage children in age-appropriate, hands-on materials, rooted in Sacred Scripture and the Liturgy.
The children enter a prepared environment called an “Atrium”, where they encounter the love of the Good Shepherd. Children are invited to use the various works provided in the Atrium to encounter the Good Shepherd on their own. An atrium is a quiet and peaceful place, one that will help the children to pray and ponder the deep mysteries of the Faith.
